Overview

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

 

This position will be located at NASA’s Langley Research Center.                                                     

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join the Electrical Engineering team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Project Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides design support to projects including concept/assembly layout based on routine design computations and leader services for design/drafting projects of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Plans drafting work to be accomplished in support of specific projects; prepares drawing lists and coordinates job with engineers, detailers, and checkers.
  • Prepares design concepts/layouts; independently performs basic engineering analysis and research to size and select equipment and materials.
  • Performs complex drafting assignments with general instructions and working from furnished or self-generated computations and sketches.
  • Performs drawing checks to confirm accuracy and acceptability guided by the company and/or client drafting standards/specifications, engineering computations, and sketches.
  • Evaluates the functional feasibility of design and its conference to specifications.
  • Prepares sketches to be drawn by others, helps maintain drafting standards, and assists in training of new or less experienced drafting personnel.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship is required.

 

Two (2) years of college with courses in computer science, mathematics, or other related engineering courses is preferred, plus four (4) years of related engineering experience with some expertise in formulating data for presentation. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the experience.

 

Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written with effective use of visual aids. Should be able to use computing technology for problem analysis and solutions.

 

Perform electrical power/controls design assignments and work from the designs of others.

 

Compile data, perform elementary design computations, prepare estimates (design and construction), prepare designs in electrical facilities and utilities power distribution, lighting, fire alarm system, telephone and communication plans, controls schematics and interconnection diagrams, wiring diagrams, consult manufacturers, evaluate materials, write/edit specifications, provide professional electrical power /controls engineering support within allocated task resources, and work under supervision.

 

AutoCAD experience in release 2024 or better and REVIT experience in release 2024 is required.

 

Knowledge of the National Electrical Code is preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work Environment

Office Environment. (90%)

Test/lndustrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. Travel between facilities and test sites is required. (10%)

 

Physical Requirements:

Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions (20%). Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Standard office equipment - PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.

Software: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) (50%)

 

Attendance:

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (<20%)

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

       

Compensation Details:

$27.42 - $40.58/hour
