The Mechanical Engineer ( Or elated engineering field ) assigned to the Component Services Section will support the Valve Shop and associated technical areas within the Technical Services Division. This role combines hands-on engineering work with direct customer interaction. The engineer will assist with the design, development, evaluation, and testing of technical components and systems, while also serving as a primary point of contact for customers who require technical feedback, guidance on work requests, or clarification of procedures. The position includes structured training to develop proficiency in key operational areas, including the Fluid Component Laboratory, Clean Rooms, and Personal Protective Equipment support. The selected candidate will work closely with senior engineers and may help guide the work of junior personnel as needed.
Responsibilities:
The engineer will perform design and evaluation tasks on mechanical components and systems. This includes testing, troubleshooting, refurbishment, and supporting work on flight-qualified hardware in accordance with NASA requirements. The role requires daily coordination with customers to process work requests, address technical questions, and ensure that all concerns are resolved in a timely and professional manner. The engineer will assist the Fluid Component Lab, the Clean Rooms, and the PPE program by applying technical expertise to support ongoing operations. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to ensure that engineering solutions align with customer needs and established procedures. The position includes extensive on-the-job training to develop full competency in Sierra Lobo’s technical service processes.
The role requires an understanding of general engineering concepts and the ability to follow established guidelines under the direction of senior personnel.
Strong communication skills are essential due to the customer-facing nature of the position and the need to work effectively with multiple work centers.
An interest in developing expertise in fluid component systems, clean room operations, and PPE support is also expected.
