Responsibilities

The Structural Strength Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering Technician level III (Service Contract
Act (SCA) Occupation Code 30080) support NASA - Marshall Space Flight Center’s Structural Strength
Test Branch and contractor personnel in support of NASA research and development, configuration and
maintenance of test article systems and testing infrastructure. This position provides semi-professional
technical support for engineers and is required to have some practical knowledge of science or
engineering. This position receives direction from the Department Manager and Team Leads.
Structural Strength Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering Technician Level III duties include, but
are not limited to:
• Assembling space flight test articles
• Performing routine maintenance, installation/integration of various types of mechanical and
instrumentation components such as strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, load
cells, hydraulic actuators, tubing, etc.

Instrumentation applications, data collection, network maintenance, electrical assembly, soldering,
crimping, fabricating various types of cables/connectors.
• Interfacing directly with MSFC customers, technicians, and other test team members.
• This position will perform other duties as required to fulfill the mission of the MSFC Structural
Strength Testing Branch.

Qualifications

This position is subject to random drug testing.
Required Experience: (i.e.: Knowledge, skills, abilities, software, etc.)
• Associate degree or High School diploma and/or 3 years equivalent technical experience.
• Experience should include a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems for
personal computers and MS Office products.
Education:
• High School Graduate or GED
Preferred Experience: (i.e.: Knowledge, skills, abilities, software, etc.)
• Experience with forklifts, aerial lifts, and bridge cranes
Essential Job Functions:
• Must be able to work from written and verbal instructions
• Good communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Must adhere to MSFC and OSHA safety requirements, including use of appropriate PPE when
necessary and follow written technical procedures.
• Must be dependable and willing to work hours outside the normal schedule.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and workmanship
• Experience reading and understanding specifications and detailed work instructions
Work Environment:
• High Bay, Lab, Test Stands
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to pass a MSFC physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.
• All positions supporting the METTS III contract require successful completion of NASA medical
screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings
is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment
Questionnaire.
• Must be able to lift 40lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be able to work at heights.
Other Essential Functions:
• Must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements

Security Clearance Requirement:
• Requires ability to obtain and maintain NASA Public Trust background screening requirements.
(applicants selected for positions requiring a Security Clearance will be subject to a security investigation
and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)
