DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualifications

REQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Experience with government facilities programs desirable but not necessary
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills. 
  • Familiarity with rocket propulsion desirable but not necessary – willing to learn.
  • The candidate shall have a good command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint).
  • A working knowledge of the English language is required. 
  • The candidate shall be able to operate in a team environment, and shall have good interpersonal, reporting and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Troubleshooting, identifying, and resolving mechanical problems, including RV, valves, piping pressures, and equipment malfunctions. 
  • Repair, replacing damaged or malfunctioning mechanical components (tubing, valves, actuators, piping, etc). 
  • Testing using test equipment to measure pressures and flow rates to ensure proper system function (vacuum pumps, gages, flow meters, etc). 
  • Following Safety Regulations adhering to safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and other local codes. 
  • Communicating with Clients/Customers explaining mechanical issues to customers, outlining repair solutions, and recommending preventative measures. 
  • Using Tools and Equipment, employing a variety of tools and measuring instruments for installation, testing, and repair tasks. 
  • Sets up and operates various types of manual and numerically controlled machine tools such as: vertical and horizontal boring mills, lathes, CNC machines and other precision type machines as required to perform the most complex machining operations.  Performs machining operations on various machine tools to develop machining processes applicable to the machining of new or exotic materials, unusual or unique machining requirements of size and complexity of machined item, sequence of machining, layout and set up, complexity of interrelated dimensions, compound contours and extremely close tolerances. 
  • Works from complicated and complex blueprints, oral instructions, sketches, engineering data, work orders, shop folders, etc., to determine necessary machining operations and to plan operation sequences.  Plans layouts, set ups, sequence of machining operations and devises machining aids.  Computes angles, contours, and dimensions not shown on the drawings, using advance shop mathematics. 
  • Performs a series of complex machining operations on various machine tools, including milling, boring, grinding, turning, drilling, shaping, grooving, slotting, etc., on all types of ferrous, non-ferrous and synthetic materials where related dimensions, compound angles and radii are involved.  Maintains coordinated tolerances as required.  Performs precision machining to the most critical tolerances and requirements.
  • Develops machining operations on various machine tools, identifies machine malfunctions and notifies supervisor.  In conjunction with supervision, develops machining techniques, standard for speeds and feeds, cutting tools, set ups. Sequence of operations, holding devices and modifications to machine tools as necessary to meet precision machining requirements. 
  • Utilizes optical instruments as required to set up and check work and variety of precision instruments to check work against job specifications. 
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • The candidate must be able to complete a background check for test complex and facility access.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with state of the art technology.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license. High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus five or more years of direct progressive related experience and demonstrated ability. Position requires comprehensive knowledge of technical expertise gained through work experience in field of specialty. Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with state of the art technology.
  • Must be capable of interpreting and understanding complex mechanical drawings and schematics of various components and performing to detailed written tasks to accomplish refurbishment and testing of sophisticated pressure control and regulation components.
  • Two years minimum from a Technical College with 5 years’ experience in precision machine shop operations, must have experience with CNC equipment to include MAZAK or other types of numerically controlled equipment.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude with experience utilizing precision measurement devices for refurbishment of complex mechanical systems.
  • Must have basic understanding of pressure systems, cryogenics, control mechanism, and PPEs needed to work with hazardous tasks.
  • Prior knowledge of the NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.  Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.  Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift minimum of 30 pound load up from the ground frequently
  • Walk six hours per day
  • Bend and stoop six hours per day
  • Work overhead with minimum 20 pound load
  • Push and pull frequently throughout the day
  • Walk up/down stairs frequently
  • Stand seven hours per day
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Wear PPE gear six hours continuously (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves)
  • Tolerate extreme cold/heat for three hours continuously
