Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center providesengineering and technical services in the areas of aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities. TFOME management is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing unique products and services to NASA Glenn. We are currently seeking a Journeyman Level Electronics Technician to apply technical knowledge to perform routine and non routine electronics tasks following detailed work instructions. Performs such tasks as replacing instrument and control components, building & wiring ac/dc circuits, repairing electronic equipment; troubleshooting and installing PLC systems, pressure transducers, and motor controllers; taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes. This person will work in a technical team or at times independently. Work schedules will involve rotating shifts and overtime as needed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting manufacturing equipment which uses electronic and computer systems to control hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical subsystems and components.
  • Diagnose problems based on observations of malfunction, deviations from manufacturer's specifications, and problem reports from shop staff.
  • Dismantle machinery as needed to access, inspect, repair or replace defective components.
  • Test machines following repair and prior to return-to-service to ensure operation within manufacturer's specifications and Government requirements.
  • Replacing instrument and control components.
  • Building & wiring ac/dc circuits.
  • Repairing electronic equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and installing PLC systems, pressure transducers and motor controllers.
  • Taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.
  • May work with a technical team and/or at times independently.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate or equivalent skills and experience or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Engineering Technology, plus two to four years of related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use electronic test equipment for troubleshooting components and electrical systems
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others in a team environment
