This position is located in Las Cruces, NM at the NASA White Sands Test Facility in the Technical Services department.

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer II within our Technical Services division, you will play a dual role as both a technical expert and a customer service representative. You will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and analysis of technical products and systems. You will also be the point of contact for customers, assisting with processing work requests, providing technical feedback, and addressing concerns regarding components or procedures.

This position offers training to become a proficient Technical Services Engineer, with a focus on supporting three critical areas: The Fluid Component Lab, Clean Rooms, and PPE. You will work closely with senior engineers and may oversee and direct the efforts of junior personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop technical products and systems; perform engineering design evaluations and testing.
  • Provide customer support, including processing work requests, giving feedback, and addressing technical questions and concerns.
  • Conduct engine or component-level refurbishment, troubleshooting, decontamination, and handling of flight-qualified components and support equipment per NASA requirements.
  • Support key operational areas, including the Fluid Component Lab, Clean Rooms, and PPE, by providing technical expertise and assistance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that engineering solutions meet the specific needs of our customers.
  • Undergo extensive training to become proficient in Sierra Lobo’s technical service offerings and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • 2-5 years of experience in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with common engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work under immediate supervision and follow pre-established guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills for customer interaction and cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Interest in receiving training to enhance expertise in fluid component systems, clean room operations, and PPE.
