Overview

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

 

This position will be a full-time position supporting the NASA White Sands Test Facility Propulsion Department.

Responsibilities

Provide quality and timely test and maintenance technician support within the propulsion department. Technician support includes fabrication, operation and maintenance, under the guidance and instruction of senior propulsion technicians and/or Propulsion Engineers.  All technician support is required to be conducted safely, with quality workmanship.

Candidate must be able to successfully complete assigned duties and tasks under the guidance of more experienced and knowledgeable personnel. Candidate may receive job assignments from other technical personnel such as engineers, technical specialist, or other more experienced technicians.

 

1. Candidate must be able to apply working knowledge to perform simple and routine tasks when working on mechanical systems or components.
2. Candidate must be able to develop, fabricate, modify, mock-up, operate, checkout, maintain, adjust, troubleshoot and modify hydraulic, propellant, pneumatic, fluid and propulsion rocket engine systems.
3. Candidate must be familiar with and employ contamination control techniques required to maintain flight system cleanliness specifications.
4. Candidate must be able to perform duties with limited supervision or limited technical guidance.
5. Candidate must be able to read and interpret documents such as fluid systems schematics, safety regulations, operational and maintenance instructions, manufacturer’s manuals, and other similar documents.
6. Candidate must be able to write and maintain accurate records, routine reports and utilize electronic correspondence.
7. Candidate must perform quality work in a timely manner, maintain work area neat, orderly, and in a safe manner.
8. Candidate must maintain good housekeeping of work and break areas.
9. Candidate must adhere to all WSTF safety rules and regulations on a daily basis.
10. Candidate must perform other duties as required or assigned.
11. Candidate must promote and participate in WSTF’s safety culture programs through meetings, organizations and suggestions.
12. Special physical requirements will be the ability to regularly lift 40 lbs. (Occasionally lift 50 lbs.), ability to work in confined spaces and elevated platforms, and be capable of working in respirator and/or totally encapsulated suit (“TES” qualification or equivalent).
13. Candidate must maintain all training current as specified within the White Sands Training Database (WSTD) and Table I.
14. To hold this job classification candidate must satisfactorily complete all training requirements within twelve (12) months of hiring as a Systems Tech Technician C (unless otherwise specified by area supervisor or within Table I (Specific Work Area Qualifications).

Qualifications

1. Candidate must have a minimum of (2) years of recently obtained (within 10 years) applicable experience or equivalent related civilian or military trade school training. Applicable experience is based on stainless steel fabrication skills and experience in operating or troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
2. Candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
3. Candidate must pass a physical examination as determined by the White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) for this job classification.
4. Candidate must be able to apply working knowledge to perform simple and routine tasks when working on mechanical systems or components.
5. Candidate must be able to perform these duties with limited supervision or limited technical guidance.
6. Candidate must have an understanding and ability to interpret safety regulations, fluid system schematics and operational procedures.
7. Candidate must be able to write and maintain accurate records, routine reports and utilize electronic correspondence.
8. Candidate must perform quality work in a timely manner and maintain work area in a neat, orderly, safe manner.
9. Special physical requirements will be the ability to regularly lift 40 lbs. (Occasionally lift 50 lbs.), ability to work in confined spaces and elevated platforms, and be capable of working in respirator and/or totally encapsulated suit (“TES” qualification or equivalent).
