Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power and propulsion test facilities. We are currently looking for an experienced Engineering Techncian to conduct experiments in the mechanical testing, fatigue, and fracture laboratories using fatigue machines, universal tensile machines, and sophisticated controlled mechanical test equipment.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and conduct experiments in the advanced metallics, ceramics, tribology and surface science, and environmental durability testing laboratories which develop high temperature materials such as metals, powders, ceramics, coatings, and lubricants primarily used in aerospace power and propulsion systems. 
                           
  2. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to test results; selects from several possible design and testing layouts; calculates design data; and prepares set ups.

  3. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate materials performance. Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests using applicable machines or instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.

  4. Maintain and perform preventative maintenance on testing equipment, including electro-mechanical devices and hydraulic / pneumatic systems.

Qualifications

  1. Associate of Engineering Technology degree with 4 years of materials testing experience, or a minimum of eight to ten years’ experience in a related field.

  2. Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of materials testing equipment.

  3. Proficient use of computers utilizing Microsoft office suite software including Word, Excel, and Solid Works is a plus.

  4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.

  5. Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow.

  6. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.

  7. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
