    Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

     

    This position is located on the CMOE contract, located at NASA's Langley Research Center.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide civil/structural design and drafting; coordinates work with project management; senior engineers and drafters.
    2. Performs creative design from general concepts, basic and independent engineering analysis, liaison, and field monitoring.
    3. Performs complex drafting assignments with general instructions and working from furnished or self-generated computations and sketches.
    4. Evaluates functional feasibility of designs and their conformance to specifications; uses company and/or client drafting standards and specifications and engineering computations and sketches to assess the accuracy and acceptability of drawings prepared by other drafters, or designers.  Instructs originators in the correction of noted deficiencies and certifies completeness of final drawing packages.
    5. Proficient with operating AutoDesk AutoCAD software in preparation of design documents is required.
    6. Additional experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit BIM and ArcGIS software is preferred.
    7. Provides technical guidance to assigned teams assisting senior engineer, senior designers, project managers
    8. Project design support includes: preparing design concepts/layouts, compile data, perform elementary design computations, prepare estimates, prepare civil/structural arrangement plans, select components and develop bill of materials, perform measurements in the field, consult manufacturers, vendor research, evaluate materials, write specifications, prepare construction cost estimates, provide civil/structural design support within allocated task resources, and work under supervision.
    9. Working knowledge of typical structural codes such as steel (AISC), concrete (ACI) and welding (AWS) is required.
    10. Plans drafting work to be accomplished in support of specific projects; prepares drawing lists and coordinates job with engineers, detailers, and checkers. 

    Qualifications

    1. U.S. Citizenship is required. 
    2. Two (2) years of college with course in engineering or associated discipline, and six (6) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience for a total of eight (8) years.
    3. Position requires comprehensive knowledge of programs gained through long and varied work experience in field of specialty.
    4. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written with effective use of visual aids.
    5. Should be able to use computing technology for problem analysis and solution.
    6. Requires knowledge in the use of drafting instruments and equipment, and in the application of drafting principles (descriptive geometry, freehand lettering, dimensioning, layout, detail, etc.).
    7. General working knowledge of shop and field erection processes associated with mechanical/structural, electrical or architectural design.
