    Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

     

    This position is located on the RTES contract located at Edwards Air Force Base.

    Responsibilities

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Provide technical advisory and assistance services to the Propellants Branch (RQRP) of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Rocket Lab for all facets of the Propellants Branch mission to include: synthesis of energetic materials, polymer binder systems, propellant formulation, composite material systems, rocket manufacturing technology, acoustic mixer technology, continuous flow reactors, analytical chemistry, and theoretical chemistry. Assess branch investments and resources and provide recommendations annually. Provide input on branch hiring plans, participate in interviews and provide recommendations. Gather input and prepare branch weekly activity report. Hold quarterly technical reviews of branch projects and provide written assessments. Track branch metrics as per Rocket Propulsion Division guidance. Travel to JANNAF, Scientific Advisory Board meetings, RP-21 meetings, and other technical conferences.

     

    REQUISITE SKILLS:

     

    • Experience in management of scientific research programs and personnel.
    • An understanding of most of the following technology areas is desired: synthesis of energetic materials, polymer binder systems, propellant formulation, composite material systems, rocket manufacturing technology, acoustic mixer technology, continuous flow reactors, analytical chemistry, and theoretical chemistry.
    • Proven ability to review, evaluate, and provide constructive critiques of scientific/technical papers, presentations, reports, program descriptions, etc.
    • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
    • The candidate shall have a good command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • A high proficiency with the English language is required. 
    • The candidate shall be able to operate in a team environment, and shall have good interpersonal, reporting and communication skills (written and verbal).

    Qualifications

    • Candidates must have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
    • 10 - 20 years of experience.
    • The candidate shall be a US Citizen able to obtain a US security clearance.
