  • Overview

    The Propulsion Test Complex at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio is seeking a Data Engineer on the Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance, and Engineering (TFOME) contract to provide the integrity of the overall data acquisition process to ensure high quality data is collected.

    The Data Engineer works directly with the electrical and instrumentation engineers and technicians to ensure all data systems are properly configured and instrumentation is functioning properly.

    This individual will also work closely with the test customer in the development of requirements for the data acquisition and analysis software, and with computer programmers to understand and implement data requirements, measurement needs including accuracies, instrumentation requirements, and performance calculations.


    The job responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

    1. Providing project management support for an assigned test project including developing detailed project plans and schedules with task lists, durations, and assignment of resources relevant to data acquisition, programming, and instrumentation needs.
    2. Supporting large and small scale aerospace ground testing projects, including involvement of system and hardware installation, measurement and data requirements, data analysis, instrumentation specifications, and final report generation.
    3. Developing on-line data displays (graphical and tabular displays) for use in analysis of test data and troubleshooting during testing.
    4. Preparing documentation supporting facility development efforts, specifications, and purchase requisitions for facility hardware.


    The following qualifications are required for this position:

    1. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, and two (2) years applicable experience.
    2. Proficiency in developing graphical user interfaces to show real time data, and in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    3. Knowledge of MATLAB and test systems involving data acquisition systems and its associated signal conditioning hardware to interface with sensors such as accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure transduces, and thermocouples.
    4. Knowledge in measurement techniques such as sampling rates, scaling and filtering, and client/server computer networking.
    5. Knowledge of PLC’s, electrical controls, and mechanical process systems is a plus.
