  • Overview

    The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities.  We are currently seeking a Machinist Intern.

     

    The Machinist Intern is an entry level position that will train under journeyman level technicians to develop proficiency in the machining discipline through on-the-job training. 

    Responsibilities

    1. Study engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, sample parts, and other information to determine dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements of finished parts.

     

    1. Apply academic knowledge, acquired experience, guidance from mentors, and creativity to determine the material, machinery, tooling, programming and processes necessary to manufacture parts.

     

    1. Determine the chucks, vises, fixtures and other work holding devices required for the selected manufacturing process, and fabricate or install as necessary.

     

    1. Set up, program and operate manual and CNC mills, lathes and other equipment to complete the manufacturing process.

     

    1. Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using various measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, gages and dial indicators.

     

    1. Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment with other machinists, technicians, engineers, and customers.

     

    1. Maintain tools, machinery, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

     

    1. Obey all safety requirement and work in a manner which maximizes personal safety.

     

    Qualifications

    1. Must be 18 years of age or older.

     

    1. Possess a diploma from an accredited vocational/trade high school with an emphasis on career technical training in precision machining technology.

     

    1. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the occupation.

     

    1. Ability to communicate and work well with others in a team environment.

     

    1. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from work lead or supervision.

     

    1. Demonstrate progress on assigned work and continuous improvement in skill level.

     

    1. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.

     

    1. Submit monthly work progress reports to TFOME supervisor.

     

    1. Successfully admitted to a two (2) year accredited college program in Manufacturing Technology or related discipline. Preference may be given to candidates who have earned college credit while in high school.
