Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).


This position is located in our Pasadena California office, supporting NASA JPL's MEDALS contract.




Position Description:

This position offers the opportunity for daily interaction with SLI Engineering Staff in support of JPL and other customers, with the goal of gaining professional experience in both technical and non-technical subjects. Limited, supervised interaction with customers and non-SLI teammates may occur.


If your university requires multiple sessions at the same employer, this should be disclosed during the initial application process. The availability of a recurring position cannot be guaranteed. Satisfactory job performance is a prerequisite to any recurring co-op sessions.

Work Location:

The majority of work will be performed at the SLI office in Pasadena, CA. Incidental work (such as attending meetings, delivery of small packages, etc.) may occur at JPL facilities. The need to perform non-local travel is not anticipated. Telecommuting or other remote-work arrangements are not offered for the Engineering Co-Op position. The SLI Pasadena office works on a “9-80” basis (10 hour work days, with alternating Fridays off)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the Full-Time Engineering Staff in both day-to-day and non-routine activities.
  • Complete assigned tasks under the supervision and mentorship of the full-time staff. The ability to work both individually as well as a member of a team is required.
  • Work outside of traditional business hours may be required at times to support special projects or deadlines.



  • Must be a currently-enrolled Undergraduate Student attending an ABET-accredited university in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optical Engineering, Software Engineering or their equivalents. Engineering Technology applicants may be considered under some circumstances.
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Must have an interest in JPL missions and projects.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required (sealed transcript must be provided prior to start of work).
  • Students must be at or above the sophomore coursework level.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, Solidworks, Altium, Zemax or other engineering software tools is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Hands-on experience in the applicable field of study is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Extracurricular activities related to the student’s field of study are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Must meet all necessary requirements to qualify for a JPL Visitor Badge.
  • US Citizenship is required.
