Overview

The In-Space Propulsion Facility at NASA GRC Plum Brook Station is searching for an Electrical Test Engineer to perform a scope of work involving study, design, implementation, and/or project management of a wide variety of electrical, instrumentation, control, and data systems for facilities, test related apparatus, and specialty hardware and software.

Responsibilities

This position will design and develop electronic integrated circuits, controls, data and instrumentation hardware, subsystems, and systems for specialty processes, aerospace hardware, and test rigs; integrate pressure, temperature, cryogenic temperature sensors, flow, stress-strain, proximity and level measurement devices into process systems and test hardware.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  1. Providing technical expertise for programming, setup, maintaining, and troubleshooting PC/Unix based systems, data acquisition systems, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  2. Providing technical direction to electronics technicians and electricians in the installation, checkout, calibration, troubleshooting and operation of electrical, controls, data, and instrumentation hardware and systems.
  3. Developing, and updating schematics, drawings, calibration documentation, technical procedures, and quality control (ISO 9001) documentation.
  4. Integrating controls and instrumentation into PLC hardware and software, design and specification of instrumentation, signal conditioning equipment, and integration with data acquisition systems.

Qualifications

This position requires a BS degree or higher in an Electrical engineering discipline, 5 or more years of related experience, knowledge of MS Office products, and specialized knowledge and experience of one or more aspects related to Electrical, Electronic, Data Systems or Computer Engineering.

The understanding of cryogenics, power distribution systems to 480 VAC, basic semiconductor device theory, steady state and transient data acquisition systems is highly desirable, as well as, direct knowledge of C++, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, AUTOCAD, MATHCAD, SPICE, National Electric Code (NEC) and ISA Standards.
