This position is located on the ETIS II contract at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

Responsibilities

FUNCTION OF POSITION

Performs multiple routine and non-routine complex tasks, Provide technical operate conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools such as, Mill Turn, and milling machines. Plans, programs, and carries out operations needed to produce complex prototype pieces that meet precise specifications. Predominantly should be proficient in live tooling lathe programs, RAM EDM, and operates 4th and 5th axis high-speed machines. Applies knowledge of working properties of metals (including, but not limited to aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper and aerospace exotic materials). Performs non-routine assignments, and assists in setting group goals and plans to carry them through. Selects and adapts procedures to current assignments with only initial instructions. Receives technical advice when needed and performs under general supervision. Mentors other personnel in precision programming and machining. May cross-train and/or support all groups or other duties associated within area of assignment as directed by lead personnel or supervision. 

May direct others while leading tasks when directed by ETIS II management.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Primary duties are to independently and with minimal direction operate conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools. This will include producing precision complex prototype pieces that meet precise specifications from drawings and flight hardware per project requirements.
  2. Also must be able to accurately use measuring equipment; geometric dimensioning and tolerancing using precision equipment, and read, interpret and follow written procedures and simple technical drawings and other routine tasks as directed by lead personnel or supervision. May also be requested to train entry level technicians as directed and support fabrication.
  3. Program Setup and operate live tooling Mill Turn machines.
  4. Predominantly programs and operates high-speed machines.
  5. Applies knowledge of working properties of metals (including, but not limited to aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper and exotic metals).
  6. May be cross-utilized and cross-trained to support other groups in order to develop overlapping workforce.

 

Qualifications

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Education or years’ experience commensurate with skill level required for position complexity as determined by management.
  2. Knowledge level direct experience required direct experience in programming in a CNC machine shop environment required. Must be proficient in the operation of conventional and CNC equipment including turning and/or milling centers. Must be experienced in the use of measuring equipment; geometric dimensioning and tolerancing; and working with engineering drawings and electronic files.
  3. Must be experienced with multi-axis programming and machining, preferably using MasterCam, FeatureCam, or Pro Manufacturing.
  4. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
  5. Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of work flow.
  6. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
  8. Must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing the following training: hazard communication, personal protective equipment, IT security and other required training or certifications as directed by ETIS II management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Will require an extensive amount of walking, sitting, and standing.
  2. Works while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.
  3. Lifts and carries items up to 35 pounds.
  4. Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.
  5. Ability to handle stress and work well under pressure
  6. Multi-Tasking Ability, Organizational Skills required.
  7. Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.
  8. Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASK

  1. Operates conventional and CNC equipment and machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, and milling machines.

  2. Hand tools such as hammers, punches, long nose pliers and small wrenches.

  3. Government vehicles.

  4. Desktop computers utilizing Microsoft office suite software including Word and Excel.

CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

 

Regular daily attendance and reporting on time is required to maintain shift effectiveness.  Overtime (Holidays, Weekends, and Scheduled & Unscheduled) is required.
